hacking attempt... when trying to access smf admin

It all seems to be working ok except I am unable to access smf amdministration either through mambo or when accessing directly through the following link:  http://localhost/forum/index.php?action=admin.

I know I must be overlooking a simple setting and I don't have a clue.

I'm running Mambo 4.5.3 SMF 1.1 and MamboSMFforum 1.3.0 on WIN XP local system.

Any clues would be much appreciated.

OK, I've figured out a workaround from within Mambo by adding "admin" to the following: http://localhost//index.php?option=com_smf&Itemid=63&expv=0&action=

That gets me in.  Question is, how do I fix the admin button hyperlink in the SMF console?

No longer as urgent but it would sure be nice to know.
