Unique problem - syncing user db's
« on: July 12, 2005, 11:15:16 AM »

Hello,

I am using latest version of mambo 4.5.2.3, com_smf 1.3.1.3 and community builder rc1.

I am trying to use forums standalone i.e. directly www.funonthenet.in/forums/ instead of through the com_smf plugin because I noticed quotation mark bugs, it puts '' instead of ' even with magic quotes gpc on. Also with it direct, I guess it would rank better on search engines as the one with mambo is a very long url! (correct me if im wrong)

Now im using the CB login/register module and those options are set in the bridge to CB. Many times it happens that a user registers at the website (and dosent login to mambo), then goes to forums where his login dosent work. If the user registers and logs in to mambo itself first then the logins are synced but not otherwise. Also if a user creates login at forum it dosent work on site. (doing it as standalone)

I have to always sync the db's... is it possible to auto sync db's when login is created at site or forum? Would that take too many sql queries?

Thanks!

Well the quotes problem seems to be fixed by puttin magic quotes runtime also on Smiley Any idea on how to run them standalone?

Or would I be better of running it through mambo, how would it affect search engine rankings?

I have this problem as well, but in a slightly different way...

I've got my forum on a subdomain http://forum.MYSITE.org ....  I've got Mambo-SMF integration 1.3.1.3 installed with the separate login module from this site.  When users log in to the main site, they are not automatically logged into SMF, and vice versa.  No big deal, really...

However, when someone registers on the forum subdomain (which is much more popular and wider spread link than the main site) it allows all manner of characters, but when I go to synch the databases (doesn't auto-synch, much to my dismay) it causes problems.  Is there anyway to limit the characters used in SMF registration?

Has anyone else encountered this problem, or tried to run a SMF separate from Mambo, but still integrated?

My suggestion to you is have your sub-domain redirected to the main domain or at least to the main domain's forum url.
