How do I integrate existing SMF Database ?
« on: May 01, 2005, 04:49:04 PM »

Hi guys,
Is there a way to NOT install a fresh SMF in the mambo db and instead use my existing board's database ? It's extremely incovenient this way. I've installed the Integration module 1.3.0beta2 - most of the steps have gone successfully, except for the part,  where it asks for SMF DB Prefix. Since smf is not located in the same db, it just refuses to accept this prefix.

I'm attaching a screenshot of it here... Please take a look:

That's where I'm getting stuck. There's gotta be some way, right ? It's damned inconvenient now to back up a thriving board entirely, with hundreds of modifications that I've done and restore everything again... The mere thought gives me spine chills..

Desperately seeking help on this..

Thanks & Regards Smiley

your SMF database isn't the same as mambo database??? if not well import SMF tables into the database where mambo is, make the changes to Settings.php of SMF just to update database name and it will work!

Nope - I've had the SMF Board running far longer than mambo.. I installed mambo just a few days back - isn't there any way out other than messing around with table shifts Huh Can't I modify any of those files to point to two different db's instead ? That would be a much cleaner approach... Sad

right now, this version does not support seperate SMF db. What you can do is install mambo over SMF database.

Hmmm... yep.. that might do the trick.  Roll Eyes Trying it out and reporting back. Really didn't feel like shifting around the db's  Grin

Thanks for the tip  Cheesy

Hey Admin Smiley  Grin Thanks a tonne man !!! That did the job... I'd to install mambo into the same db as SMF.. It's working perfectly - but I encountered a whole lot of funny problems while doing so...

If anyone's interested in a step-by-step account of how I almost messed up the installation and yet got it to work, see my post on my board: http://www.antilost.com/board/index.php?topic=32.msg165#msg165

Also one more question: When I try to upload the new beta2 patch file over the original file, why does it refuse saying Permission Denied... I simply cannot do it through FTP clients.. Does mambo make all those folders read-only Huh

Thanks & Regards,

It depends on your mambo global configuration. You can change the permission defaults from the "Server" tab.
