Failed: Mambo index.php is not writeable!
« on: April 26, 2005, 02:54:21 AM »

Installation was successful however in Mambo-SMF Configuration page under INSTALLATION CHECKLIST:
click to patch  Patch mambo index.php file;
when I click to patch I get the following message "Failed: Mambo index.php is not writeable!"

I am 100% sure the index.php file is writeable (CHMOD 777), maybe it's my server/host but that is the error I get.

Can you try making the main path writeable. Then when you're done configuring, just set it back to not writable. I think I need to modify some codes in admin to allow viewing it even the file is not writeble.

Making the main folder writeable did the trick, it worked.

Following this I have a question:

I installed all kinds of new things like Mambo, SMF, SMF Integration 2 Mambo. During installation I had to set lots of directories and files to 0777 which IMHO is a big security hole.
Could someone post a list of files (SMF and SMF Integration) which have to stay writable after Installation is done? All others could be reset to 0644 (or 755 for folders), right?

When you're done configuring... you can actually set it all back to not writable. But, you won't see the admin page. I guess I have to change the logic there.

Hi,

I changed the index.php to 777, but unfortunately, my hosting provider will not allow me to set the main folder to anything more liberal than 755. That doesn't seem to be good enough to allow the mambo-SMF forum's configuration script to patch the main mambo index.php.

So, how can I apply the patch manually? Where is the source file which I should  overwrite the mambo index.php with? (or is it a matter of inserting and/or changing lines of code inside the index.php)? In any case, how do I do this, this is the last step - then I'm done?

Thanks very much.

Rename your mambo index.php to index.php~. Then get the file here.
