1  Mambo 3rd Party Addon Hacks / Module Hacks / Full featured loginmodule on: May 25, 2005, 05:34:03 AM
To make it easy to explain, I made this image:

I would like a loginmodule that can display both the CB avatar, and the SMF forum avatar. One links to CB profile, and the other of course to SMF profile.

I got this working now, but the code is a mess (result of copy+paste), and there are bugs like when I'm browsing the forums, the SMF-avatar disappears from the loginmodule...

I will happily supply the code I've used so far, but I'm not sure anyone would want that anyway. I write this with admin here in mind, but if there are others that could make this work flawless, admin could do other neat stuff, and everyone would be happy Cheesy

Another thing to consider that I have not done, is image resizing to make the two fit. And as always, div+css is preferable.

Well, I know it's a lot to ask. I gave it a shot and now I see it's probably above my level, so I'm asking. Thanks in advance!

I think this is a nice piece of work:

Mambo template download (says 4.5.1 but works fine on my 4.5.2.1)
SMF theme download

3  Mambo 3rd Party Addon Hacks / Mambot Hacks / Mambo-SMF Discussbot features on: May 06, 2005, 02:28:29 PM
Hello, I tried the discussbot now, and it works good. Demanding as I am, though, I would like to see the following:

When you write mambocontent and put the tag for discussbot in, I would like the topic in SMF automatically created there and then. This is for the users who only checks forums, and not frontpage/sections (lazy bastards!)

Also, I have a forum only for discussing articles, so I want only moderators+admins to be able to start new topics there. It would be nice if the discussbot somehow could be set as an admin, and then start a topic. The way it works now, means that one of the admins/mods has to reply to the article first... not a good solution, IMO.

How about a prefix textstring that is shown with the image in mambocontent? Like: Discuss this article in our forums (3) {img}

Contents of the new topic should have
Prefix = Configurable text, ie "Discuss the article"
Link =    href="link to article">Heading<
This way, the new SMF topic could be like this:
Heading: Same as heading of content article.
Main:
{Prefix}: {Link}

Read the "readme" (duh) for Mambo-SMF...
(Short answer: yes)
5  General Discussion / General Discussion / Re: Future Development: Poll on: May 06, 2005, 03:34:41 AM
Why would anyone want phpBB when they can have SMF? I have used phpBB for 3 years, but only because I didn't know about SMF - maybe that's the case for many? Will not go back to phpBB, SMF is a lot better.
Better to make some time writing better phpBB->SMF users+posts conversion tools. The one at SMF is not very feature rich.

So, I have to agree with aravot here - MenaltoGallery is the gallery for Mambo right now, and version 2 is gonna be better. There has been good integration with MGallery 1 and Mambo, but after Mambo 4.5.1a was released, there has been some issues, and this is why there really is a need for a good Mambo+MenaltoGallery integration.  Coppermine just isn't as good, unfortunately. Also, MrJeff (author of CBE)  has reported that he will be supporting MenaltoGallery, another strong point for us who want that fluid, integrated complete site. Should be a strong point.

With that said, if you want me to answer for your poll: Coppermine.
As for phplist, I think there's enough mailing functionality available already.. Mambo's com_massmail + SMF's "Mail your users" + others.

Nice to know you're not taking a break Wink

Install mambo, then CB(E), install smf, then this integration according to instructions. Works like a charm at my testsite.
7  General Discussion / General Discussion / Re: Suggestion for Mabmo+SMF bridge on: May 05, 2005, 03:17:16 AM
One thing I can't seem to find info on anywhere:
You work at an astounishing rate, and have been on Mamboforge's last 10 the whole last month Tongue Now, with all these new releases - how about an overview of which downloads you supply, and which mods supports which bridge versions?

Do these work with the new 1.3.1 (might be 1.3.1.p1.b1 in a few hours Tongue ), I think they are all important:

hmm... I never got one automatically... didn't realize it was supposed to be created either... was that because I already had a menu item with the title "forum" in my mainmenu, as I still had SimpleBoard installed at the time?

To make a menu item for SMF in Mambo:
New -> component -> Mambo-SMF Integration

If you already have a Mambo site with users, and then start using SMF from scratch with this 1.3 bridge, users will need to login to Mambo as usual and visit your SMF forum once, before they are registered (and visible) in SMF.

But when users are logged in, all the standard Mambo components such as CONTENT think that the user is NOT logged in - so they cannot do things like submit news or weblinks.
No, this component is supposed to log the users in to both SMF and Mambo. That's essentially what it does.

Have you tried the latest version? (Right now its 1.3 beta 1 patch 2) Check the frontpage here at Mambohacks.

I meant the Firefox issue.

Admin center opens in a new window - as you can see from admin's post above, it's supposed to be like that for now. I agree that admin should not spend time sorting out those types of small issues now, the frontend should be the priority.
13  MamboHacks.com / Mambo-SMF Forum 1.3.0 Support / Re: redirect profiles to Community builder?? on: April 27, 2005, 03:28:17 AM
Hey, I wrote something on the subject here
To elaborate:
File: administrator/components/com_smf/functions.smf.php
Since not all modules are called "mod_comprofiler", the isCBLogin() will return false even if you are indeed using CB, just with a modified loginmodule. Isn't it better to check if the #_comprofiler table exists? Or maybe there's an even more secure way - to have the admin select it in the backend config.

In the component config, I didn't get any option to redirect to CB profiles - same cause? I also tried altering functions.smf.php to reflect my setup (if that has anything to do with it) but same result. Nothing in backend config about CB, though: It DOES register users in both CB&Mambo when syncing (?)

About recent posts module:
My module version: mod_smf_recent_posts.php,v 1.0 2005/04/01 11:49:45 kochp (downloaded yesterday)
I am also getting the following on the recent posts module: undefined function db_query.  I see that my index.php has been patched, so that's not it.
Tried to fix the first error, but then I got another error on the censorText() function. Commented that out, got error on un_htmlspecialchars(). Realized I probably was clueless, so I stopped there. Might be a missing include with all these functions?
- Hope it helps somewhat.

Just a cheerful sidenote: Kindred, I really admire that you are giving this build a shot, and not just act grumpy because "someone stepped on someones toes". After all, we all benefit from all these experiences! So thanks.

Browse those two sites, and you will quickly see the differences.
MamboJoe will have RC1 ready soon, and it offers some of the same functionality that MamboMe has added to their version.

Running Mambo-SMF 1.3.0b1 with SMF 1.0.3 and Mambo 4.5.2.1

Tried:
IE 6
Opera 7,5 + 8
Mozilla 1.7.5
Firefox 1.0.3

Works nicely. Cannot reproduce this error.
