Hi,

Are your Login problems the same as in this thread?

http://www.mambohacks.com/component/option,com_smf/itemid,77/topic,317.msg1704;topicseen#msg1704

If so, please post description there so problem will be tracked in one place. If you find a solution, please post there too.

Hi Cowboy,

I'm afraid I have to add my hat to the ring of those being stopped cold by this very same bug, and I am using all the latest updates from you.

Unfortunately for me, this is a showstopper. I cannot use the component as is. I'll try and provide as much detail, as concisely as possible to help you understand and reproduce the problem. I'm sure in the end it is somthing simple. The quality of your component is otherwise very good.

Configs:
=========
- Mambo 4.5.2.3
- Mambo-SMF Forum 1.3.1.3
- SMFMamboMod_1.3.1b
- SMF 1.0.5
- index.php was downloaded from your forum from here: http://www.mambohacks.com/component/option,com_smf/Itemid,77/expv,0/topic,164.msg1375#msg1375
(could this be the problem?)

- Login modules: problem occurs with all the login modules, CB, Mambo, Even your special mod_mambo_smf_login_1.3.1a

PROBLEM:
========
- Without SMF installed login/logout to/from Mambo works fine.
- Install SMF per instructions.
- Login to mambo, enter uid and password as normal.
- Receive popup window Javascript: Please complete the user name and password fields."
- You are given a choice: OK or CANCEL.
- if you choose OK, you get another window "The page you are trying to view contains POSTDATA that has expired from cache...to resend the data click OK or CANCEL to exit..." If you choose cancel, you get an empty browser window and it says "Done" at bottom. If you choose OK, the process of prompting for entry of the uid/password followed by the POSTDATA warning repeats again and again. Never stops.
- If you choose CANCEL to the "please complete uid/password" window (the first window), you hang. If you close the browser window and reopen a new one, you find you are logged in to mambo, but not SMF. Logging out of mambo brings you to the SMF window (wrapped).

- Now here's a REALLY weird part. This inability to login occurs most of the time, but not always. Sometimes you can login fine. The way to bring back the problem is to logout, then close your browser window. When you try and login again to mambo in the new browser window, the problem is back. This has always been reproducable for me.

Different login modules (mambo, CB, SMF optional login module) all have a variation of this problem, although they each behave a little differently.

Although this may be a pretty simple problem to fix, it is pretty serious because it prevents login.

I am happy to help you, give you a uid/password, etc., if you like. Just send me your email address (I assume you have mine).

Thanks.

BTW - you have one of the best supported forums in all of mambo. Keep up the good work.

What if you remove all right and left modules in Mambo, so the SMF forum (wrapped) is allotted the entire width of the screen.

Is it then fair to say SMF themes should work "out of the box"?

I did it. Seems to be working fine.

Checked the files to see if any are in Cowboy's bridge. None seemed to be, so felt the upgrade couldn't do too much harm (not necessarily, but I took a chance). So far so good...
20  MamboHacks.com / Mambo-SMF Forum 1.3.0 Support / Is it safe to upgrade to SMF 1.0.5 ? on: June 23, 2005, 05:33:10 AM
Hi Cowboy,

If we use the package manager to install the 1.0.5 SMF security upgrade, must we do anything after that to ensure the Mambo-SMF forum 1.3.1.3 still works as it should?

Thanks.
21  MamboHacks.com / Mambo-SMF Forum 1.3.0 Support / Configurability of separate SMF Login/Logout/Profile on: June 20, 2005, 02:45:19 AM
Is it possible to create a configuration option to disable SMF login/logout, so the only way in/out of the site is through the mambo login/logout?

It is quite confusing to have two different looking entrances into the site. Same with profile, there are occasions when one can get to the SMF profile, even if one configures SMF to use the CB profile.

I don't mind if the user is deprived of some SMF user-side config options, if it means the site operates in a totally integrated fashion on the front end.

A "simple" simple radio button configuration option to disable showing SMF login/logout/profile/registration buttons should do the trick.

Thanks.
22  MamboHacks.com / Mambo-SMF Forum 1.3.0 Support / Re: Failed: Mambo index.php is not writeable! on: May 31, 2005, 11:28:14 AM
Can you try making the main path writeable. Then when you're done configuring, just set it back to not writable. I think I need to modify some codes in admin to allow viewing it even the file is not writeble.

Hi,

I changed the index.php to 777, but unfortunately, my hosting provider will not allow me to set the main folder to anything more liberal than 755. That doesn't seem to be good enough to allow the mambo-SMF forum's configuration script to patch the main mambo index.php.

So, how can I apply the patch manually? Where is the source file which I should  overwrite the mambo index.php with? (or is it a matter of inserting and/or changing lines of code inside the index.php)? In any case, how do I do this, this is the last step - then I'm done?

Thanks very much.

Hi,

I did a bit of research into exactly what makes SimpleBoard so "integrated".

So in the interests of helping things along, here are some details to help with further integrating SMF into mambo. If these are done, it may be that SMF will become the mambo forum of choice in place of SB.

1. Disable the ability to login to SMF
- remove the SMF login box
- remove the words "Please login or register" from the box at the top of the SMF page.
- any other entrance to SMF login? If so, disable it too.

2. Interface with CB or CB Enhanced
(of course, this may require changes by either mambome.com or mambojoe.com)

2a.Disable the SMF profile
- when the user tries to change his profile, he should be sent to CB, where he can change his profile (for all components in a single place).

2b. Add the following stats to the CB profile
- SMF karma
- SMF # posts user made
- SMF rank

2c. Amalgamated registration component which supports both CB/CBE and SMF.

3. Just take the following as is from SMF Bridge 3.x project (as per admin's earlier post).

3a. Stats modules
- most recent posts, most active thread, most active users

3b. DiscussBot

4. Delete access to the SMF calendar functionality. The mambo calendars are much superior (extCalendar or events_calendar), and we don't need both.

5. CSS and image file integration
- want SMF to use the same images and CSS as the rest of mambo.
- I know little about this area, so no idea how ridiculous this sounds, but it is important to get the "look and feel" the same somehow.

That's it.

After these items, I believe SMF will overtake SB as the main forum component for mambo.

I don't believe it is of any great significance that the backend SMF admin panel is different. Most webmasters place first priority on the customer experience and making things "feel integrated" on the front end. If they have to forgo a tighter back end to get the greater power of SMF, they will, in my uneducated opinion, choose SMF.

Although SMF seems to be a superior forum than simpleboard, there is currently no comparison with respect to integration.

In particular, the points one would still like to see in SMF integration are:

1. strong integration with CB, as per simpleboard.
2. strong integration with CB enhanced, as per simpleboard.
3. discussbot for mambo content items (very important).
4. driven off mambo template CSS and images.
5. don't want to see a separate login box for the SMF forum. The mambo login box is the only one we need to see.
6. don't want to see separate user profiles in both SMF and CB. The CB (especially the enhanced one at mambome.com) is far superior. It is confusing to see two profiles.
7. Mambo modules for most active thread, most recent posts, most active users.

Thanks, and keep up the good work.
25  Mambo 3rd Party Addon Hacks / Component Hacks / Re: Request: CB integration? on: March 29, 2005, 09:14:20 AM
I actually have the old version of SMF-Bridge integrated with CB login already. I just have to re-apply it to this new version. I will post it when its done.

That's fantastic news! Please let everyone know when you are done integrating your SMF with CB. That is going to be one of the marriages of the century (the other being SMF and Mambo). Smiley

BTW, I saw your post on the SMF forum regarding your views of wrapped inside mambo. Not exactly sure what you meant by that, but from my perspective, the more integrated SMF is inside mambo the better. Ideally, they would run off the same template and CSS files so the when you change the look of one, the other would change in the same way.
